Wetlands are Infrastructure

Wetlands are our natural capital. Not only do wetlands provide food, shelter and water for countless animals, plants, and insects, they naturally do work that we pay thousands or millions of dollars to mimic.
 

As communities strive to adapt to climate change impacts, wetlands can act as natural defenses like flood protection, storm surge mitigation, and carbon sequestration. Communities that catalogue the functional values of their wetland infrastructure have the potential to better leverage their wetland resources.
